About Salt & Light Speech-Language Resources

Salt & Light Speech-Language Resources is a private speech-language pathology practice in Vestavia Hills, Alabama providing evidence-based speech therapy and orofacial myofunctional therapy for children, teens, and adults. Our mission is to support communication, oral function, airway health, and overall well-being through compassionate, individualized care.

We take a whole-person approach to therapy, recognizing the deep connection between speech, swallowing, breathing, posture, and oral-facial function. Every client’s plan is thoughtfully designed to address root causes—not just surface-level symptoms—so progress is meaningful, functional, and lasting.

Our Approach: Rooted in Function, Guided by Compassion

At Salt & Light, therapy goes beyond drills and exercises. We believe education, collaboration, and consistency are essential for real change. Our approach blends clinical expertise with practical strategies that fit into everyday life, empowering families and individuals to confidently support progress outside the therapy room.

We work closely with families and collaborate with other professionals—including dentists, orthodontists, pediatricians, ENTs, and physical therapists—when appropriate, to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care.

What We Treat:

We provide evaluation and treatment for a variety of communication and oral-functional concerns, including:

  • Speech sound disorders affecting clarity and intelligibility

  • Orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs), including tongue-thrust patterns, improper resting posture, and oral muscle imbalances

  • Swallowing and feeding concerns across the lifespan

  • Mouth breathing, airway-related patterns, and oral rest posture challenges

  • Habit patterns such as thumb sucking or oral fixation behaviors

  • Tethered oral tissues (tongue-tie) support, including pre- and post-release therapy

Orofacial myofunctional therapy is an evidence-based treatment approach that focuses on improving tongue posture, breathing patterns, swallowing, and oral muscle coordination. Therapy supports optimal oral function and is often used alongside orthodontic care, dental treatment, or airway-focused interventions.
