Myo Therapy

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT)

What Is Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy?
Orofacial myofunctional therapy is an evidence-based treatment that addresses improper tongue posture, mouth breathing, swallowing patterns, and oral muscle coordination. It is commonly used with children, teens, and adults to support speech, feeding, airway health, orthodontic stability, and overall oral function. At Salt & Light, we take a root-cause approach to orofacial myofunctional therapy for children, teens, and adults.

Our goal is to establish proper tongue and lip posture, encourage nasal breathing,

and support long-term oral function.

What it is:

A targeted therapy that improves how the face and mouth muscles work to support:
✔ Speaking clearly
✔ Eating & swallowing comfortably
✔ Breathing through the nose
✔ Resting tongue and jaw posture

Why parents should care:
Many common behaviors — like mouth breathing, tongue thrusting, or lisps — are connected to how muscles are working, not just habits.

Myofunctional therapy helps fix the root causes, not just symptoms.

Signs Myofunctional Therapy can help:
  • Mouth breathing at rest

  • Open mouth posture

  • Speech unclear due to tongue placement

  • Thumb or pacifier habits still present

  • Sleep issues like snoring

  • Orthodontic concerns or tongue ties

If you’re noticing these daily, this therapy could make a big difference.

We also provide education, support, and therapy for pre- and post- frenectomy procedures.

Related Support Programs

Myofunctional Therapy Packages

Who these packages are for:
These packages are designed for children, teens, and adults who benefit from myofunctional therapy but do not qualify for insurance-based speech or swallowing therapy services.

Many individuals experience oral muscle patterns — such as mouth breathing, tongue thrust, or oral rest posture concerns — that impact daily function, comfort, or long-term health, even without a medical diagnosis that meets insurance criteria.

Why This Is a Private-Pay Package?

Myofunctional therapy often focuses on functional patterns and prevention, rather than a diagnosable speech or swallowing disorder. Because of this, insurance does not typically cover these services.

To make care clear, accessible, and supportive, we offer myofunctional therapy as a structured private-pay package — so families know exactly what to expect and receive consistent guidance throughout the process.

Why a package model?
Myofunctional therapy works best with consistency, structure, and carryover at home. The package model ensures families receive clear guidance, accountability, and meaningful results — without guessing what comes next. These packages give families the support and structure they need — even when insurance coverage isn’t available — without feeling overwhelmed or unsure about next steps.

Myofunctional Therapy Packages

We currently offer three myofunctional therapy packages, designed to meet individual needs, readiness, and treatment goals.

Each package includes:

✔ Comprehensive 60 minute evaluation

✔ Personalized treatment plan based on individual needs

✔ Home exercise program with caregiver education

✔ Collaboration with dentists, orthodontists, ENTs, and other providers

✔ Progress monitoring and support throughout care

Specific package recommendations and pricing are discussed after the evaluation to ensure families receive the most appropriate level of care.

Payment Options

To help make care accessible, payment plans are available for myofunctional therapy packages.

Our team is happy to discuss options and answer questions following the evaluation.

Not Sure If This Is the Right Fit?

If you’re unsure whether your child (or you) qualify for insurance-based therapy or would benefit from the myofunctional therapy package, we’re happy to guide you.

  • A personalized, time-limited support plan

  • Early accountability and clinician guidance

  • A 20 day follow-up visit to assess progress
